Since the inception of CFPNA, the goal was to develop Family Practice Nursing Core Competencies along with CNA certification. After many discussions/meetings/attempts to move this work forward over the years, we are happy to report that a key stakeholder and research planning meeting was held on May 29th, 2017 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Funding was received from the Public Engagement Accelerator Fund (Memorial University) in partnership with CFPNA to support the meeting and planning activities for the development of core competencies for family practice nursing in Canada.
This meeting was an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders, including researchers, educators, decision-makers, and family practice nurses, to formally identify activities required to develop discipline specific competencies for family practice nursing.
The CFPNA Road to Certification Sub-Committee will now focus on applying for funding to support activities related to competency development.
